In the garden: Special effects at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens

This is my favorite kind of water feature: A thin sheet of water barely flowing over an edge:

Of course, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens works on the grand scale (with the grand budget). But I could still steal the basic idea!

Most of the archways I have seen like this have been done with rebar, and have been much narrower. I like the breadth of this arc. Again, I don't know if I could work to this scale. But it's fun to think about.

And finally, I just like the shape of these bowls; I think they're made out of concrete. The vertical, triangular pine contrasts well with the shallow circle formed by the bowl. These would be nice just to scatter about; dunno about putting perennials in them, though.

I love the idea of bamboo, but I'm not sure how it would work in practice. Can I get bendy bamboo? (I like the wide arch here very much, too.)

Here is a source for bamboo, which is indeed bendy, but how?

I would love to put up an arbor with the roof at the shallow angle of Thai roofs....
