On How To Get Blue Dogs to Vote for Single Payer

The same way you get any politician to fall in line. Primary their asses.

Of course, that assumes "you" want the Blue Dogs to fall in line...

Frankly, I think you just

tell people you want to give them Medicare and the people will take care of the Blue Dogs.

Medicare for All is Civil Rights

Remember when everyone said the Obama campaign was so well

organized and managed that it meant he would be a good president???

At the time, I said BushBoy's campaign was called well managed and look what it got us.

I am getting deeply pissed by the lack of direction from Obama. We know he can get involved (see "Skip." see digital medical records, esp'ly see TARP), and he's not very in health care. Well, mayb with health insurance.

The Congressional leaders may be seeming disorganized bcz they're trying to read the tea leaves and between the lines put out by the WH? Or am I being too kind?

The public is not appreciating this lack of direction, and that, more than concrete actions or lack of econ success, is, I think, what is causing them to lose faith in Obama. Hence, falling poll numbers.

Nothing singing Medicare for All coulnd't fix almost immediately. Does he realize that? Or is sure that whatever he does, he'll come our smelling like a rose and looking like a winner?

Actually, he's just making sure that whatever he does,

he'll end up with a plush gig in financial "services". One term is better than two because it means he gets paid even faster.

And as for the Democrats, and the people in general, fuck 'em.

But the Obama campaign was all about Obama,

and that's why it was so successful; how do you have a campaign when you don't know what it is you're pushing? Everyone's for health care, but when it comes to the details, Obama's got a whole lotta nothin' as near as I can tell. Well, he's got talking points, and slogans - which, come to think of it, is about all his campaign for president had - but he's not selling something he really believes in - like he believed in himself.

Anyone who looked at his history could have told you this would happen - but it's hard to see when you've been blinded by the light, I guess.

Not only am I disgusted with the lack of even a semblance of leadership, I'm also annoyed and put off by the condescending tone and the superior attitude of A-listers like Jane, who are beginning to treat people who care about these issues as rather stupid for not getting with their particular program for making a difference.

The problem is not the Blue Dogs, the problem is at the top. If Obama truly believed in single-payer, if he wasn't so risk-averse, all he'd have to do is send Rahm Emmanuel up to the Hill and tell each and every one of those Dogs, "I'm largley responsible for bringing you here to these halls, and I can damn well take you out, so get with the program, or I can guarantee you won't be here in two years," and I'm pretty sure they would get in line - or enough of them would that it would make a difference.

Honestly, if you can't lead on an issue that 70+% of people are behind, if you are afraid to risk failure when huge numbers of people are behind a major reform effort, you ought to just pack it up and get out of town.

Obama is a strong leader

It takes a fairly strong leader to withstand pressure from 70% of the potential electorate, divide those who really want reform against each other, all the while continuing to support big money, big business, and class cronyism, and continue to get those who are divided to make excuses for you. I really don't see risk aversion as much as collusion and complicity.
When has Obama fought for the working class against big business? When has Obama fought for Main street against Wall street? When has Obama fought for the needy against big Pharma or big Insurance?
What ever happened to universal coverage without mandates? Where are the caps on premiums rather than a 10% improvised tax on the working class?
Obama is right to admire Reagan-- he's cut from the same cloth.
Gee! Come to think of it, Obama supports all the main Blue dog stances. Imagine that.
If one wants the Bluedogs to change, dump Obama, primary blue dogs, and begin organizing a cross racial working class voting bloc to vote en mass for working class issues. If the working class would vote as a bloc rather than be divided by racial distractions, or other divisive means the overclass uses, then you'd see real change. I know, "Dream on. . ."
