Hong Kong's pro-democracy camp has won more than a third of seats in legislative elections, retaining its veto power over major legislation.
Wow. Imagine that. A part in the legislative branch that exercises veto power. Good thing Hong Kong never went into Iraq, or they might already be outta there, and that would be bad.
Funny old world, isn't it?
Anyhow, we hope MsExpat, after recovering from working for “Long Hair," shares lots and lots of stories.

What a day and night! I'm sunburned, no sleep, over the moon
At 4am last night, Hong Kong time, my candidate, Leung Kwok Hung, won a tough re-election fight to keep his seat in the Hong Kong legislature
Here's the amazing thing. The polls said he might lose. But instead he polled the second-highest number of votes in his district, just behind the thugs-n-lunch boxes Karl Rovian machine party, the DAB. (here's the tale of how I jammed, elbow to elbow, with the shock troops.
It's nice to have that veto power secure. But, alas, just about the only thing that Hong Kong's legislature can do is say "No". It is one of the few legislative bodies in the world in which the members may not initiate any legislation. Oh, and there are no public referendums allowed here, either.
good work, o human billboard!
and congratulations to your candidate.
Congratulations!
And when you recover, please tell us what it all means. (Yes, fascinating live blog here.
