High Stakes Bluff or Cards They're Holding?

...Former and possibly future presidential candidate, attorney and political activist Ralph Nader quotes Democratic Congressman Olver (Mass.) on why the Democrats are powerless to stop Bush, Cheney and Co.

According to Nader, Olver said that if the Democrats started impeachment proceedings, the Bush administration would immediately bomb Iran. When Iran retaliates at all, Bush will declare a national emergency, declare martial law, and cancel the 2008 elections.

As Nader commented, either Olver, a PhD. MIT scientist who has never been known to be on the fringe of anything, is either terribly wrong or very paranoid. Either way, said Nader "things are a lot worse than we thought."

What, me worry?

Just fine.

[Screams. Hysterical laughter.]

Of course, it's the usual thing, isn't it? They're going to to what they're going to do regardless of what we say.

We. Are. Going. To. Die. We must restore hope in the world. We must bring forth a new way of living that can sustain the world. Or else it is not just us who will die but everyone. What have we got to lose? Go forth and Fight!—Xan

I did a little digging. A lot of it seems to be the same. A contemporaneous account says worst case scenario, not prediction.

Sorry, the story is plausible, but I trust Nader as far as I can throw a concert grand piano.

Do we have better contemporaneous sources? How about Beltway chatter (of which there has been a good deal opposing the Iran madness).

Lest we forget, Ralph repeatedly told his campaign crowds, and the Media, that "things need to get a lot worse in this country before we can start making progress." Lest we forget that he was asked to not run in Florida, but, noooo:

Florida 2000:
Ralph Nader... Party: Green...Votes: 96,837...2 % source

Ralph needs to STFU, and go back to doing product recalls-- it seems that his attention is more needed in that arena, than in National politics.

He is such a schmuck. His every word deserves a laugh track.
