Sex trade is thriving in Costa Rica
Translation:
Economic crisis forces women to sell their bodies in Costa Rica
The happy double entendre talk--"a stimulus effect on Costa Rica's famous sex-tourism industry", "popular prostitution hot spots", "Costa Rica's position as an international hub for prostitution" eventually gives way (perhaps the reporter got his rocks off and decided to do his job) to some harsh realities:
Like many prostitutes, Mayela, a 36-year-old single mother with an unfinished education, first starting selling her body for sex in her early 30s to support her children. After several years of prostitution, she made enough money to buy a small house and get her three daughters into decent schools. She eventually found an unskilled assembly line job at a factory, which paid less than prostitution but got her out of the skin trade, which she despises.
But when she got laid off earlier this year, Mayela said she had no choice but to return to wearing short skirts and working long nights.
Thanks guys!!!

Thanks for the headline rewrite
That old chestnut spinning the world's oldest oppression into the world's oldest profession is yet another manifestation of rape culture. Belated thanks to BDBlue for posting that link. Rape culture really is where the rubber meets the road as far as how half of humanity is valued, and it's a mighty sorry value system, but one that is foundational for just about everything else. Sexism and the rape culture are the ancient model and building blocks for racism and imperialism; everything old is new again! We probably won't overcome our feelings of entitlement over other people and their resources without first overcoming our feelings of entitlement over the very persons of the original other people, women.
"Pura Vida" my shiny metal ass.
Who needs an army when you've got a nation full of pimps?
