I have no idea what makes Big Media Matt think that he is a better judge of what is politically practical than the Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, Chair of the House Finance Committee, Chair of the House Intelligence Committee, and 90 other members of the House of Representatives to say nothing of hundreds of candidates for office at the state and federal level. But I guess that is the sort of arrogance you need as an apprentice pundit.
He has a rant on the race in Virginia’s 10th congressional district that is so far off it is embarrassing. The only reason Democrats have any prayer of winning this race is because our candidate, Judy Feder is a wonderful, never say quit, candidate. The Republican incumbent candidate, Frank Wolf, was installed by real estate developers and oil companies. He is a determined enemy of mass transit, reasonable land use policy, and anything that would make a difference for ordinary Americans. It would be a grand thing if Feder were to defeat him.
Anyone who has done even the most superficial research (which clearly excludes Versailles
wannabees like Yglesias) knows that Virginia’s 10th CD is thoroughly Republican. Because of high gas prices, because of the commutes from hell, because of the real estate crash, because of this district's rising immigrant population, and because this is going to be a very Democratic year, Feder might be able to pull this off. But if she loses it isn’t going to be because of anything Obama did, nor will it be any reflection of the political feasibility of Medicare for All.
Much of what passes for pundit expertise is just intellectually pretentious urban legends, and should be treated accordingly.
