Hail Mary on the Kucinich Amendment

ralphbon, blogging at FireDogLake

According to Tim Carpenter of Progressive Democrats of America, one avenue of appeal remains regarding these efforts:

Democratic House leaders can insert what is called a “Manager’s Amendment” into legislation, even when it is closed to any other amendments. The managers are the majority and minority members who “manage” debate for the bill on each side.

Today, tomorrow, and beyond, we need to call these “managers” and insist that the Kucinich Amendment is restored into the healthcare bill….

The “gang” that holds our future in their hands includes:

* Speaker Nancy Pelosi: Washington, DC, office (202) 225-4965; San Francisco office (415) 556-4862

* Majority Leader Steny Hoyer: Washington, DC, office (202) 225-4131; Greenbelt office (301) 474-0119; Waldorf office (301) 843-1577

* Rep. Henry Waxman: Washington, DC, office (202) 225-3976; Los Angeles office (323) 651-1040

*Rep. Charles Rangel: Washington, DC, office (202) 225-4365; New York office (212) 663-3900

* Rep. George Miller: Washington, DC, office (202) 225-2095; Concord office (925) 602-1880; Richmond office (510) 262-6500; Vallejo office (707) 645-1888

It’s crucial for everyone in PDA to make these calls, to make them more than once, and to tell others to make these calls. Act NOW!

It is especially important to call if you live in any of these congressional districts. Considering that California has passed single payer legislation twice, only to have it vetoed by the Gropinator, Pelosi, Waxman, and Miller have a duty to put the sentiments of their constituents ahead of Versailles politics.

Note - if you call, please let us know what sort of response you got.

Made the calls...

Both Pelosi's offices, bien sur, shunt you off to an answering machine and make you feel like they're playing whack-a-mole and you're the mole. The others are more courteous

thanks

the important thing is to show that we are not giving up.

Yeah, I got that garbage from Pelosi too.

But I said "Kucinich amendment" at least five times, so if anybody actually listens, they'll get the point.

Ask WHY the CBO Hasn't Scored the Single Payer Plans

SINGLE-PAYER HEALTHCARE REFORM IS THE ONLY ETHICAL AND FINANCIAL SOLUTION:

1. MEDICARE FOR ALL WOULD SAVE THE UNITED STATES $350 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR

See the study from the New England Journal of Medicine here: http://www.pnhp.org/publications/nejmadm...

2. Another study shows SINGLE-PAYER WOULD BE MAJOR STIMULUS FOR THE US ECONOMY:

** 2.6 Million New Jobs,
** $317 Billion in Business Revenue,
** $100 Billion in Wages, and
** $44 Billion New Tax Revenues

Here’s the study: http://www.calnurses.org/research/pdfs/i...

How to pay for single payer reform: HR676 - public financing and private delivery: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nxi7DnCH3zk

Congress and the public need to see accurate numbers. The Single Payer plans currently before Congress must be scored by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). Then we'll all know the truth.
