Hagel for State!

lambert's picture

deck_chairBooMan:

A team of Reed at Defense and Hagel at State could be a potent and effective one, and progressives should not automatically sneeze at it just because Chuck Hagel is an economic and social conservative.

Yeah, and those Christian Reconstruction ties? The lunatic abortion stance? So fucking what? We've got a movement to, uh, move here!

No, I probably won't sneeze. I'll be able to hold back.

But can I throw up a little in my mouth?

NOTE The Netroots! They're folding like deckchairs! So shut the fuck up and send Obama more money!

Love the deck chair... very potent symbol! Can we get T-shirts?? Deck chair in front, "The Netroots! They’re folding like deckchairs!" on the back.

We have found the Obama symbol! The deck chair!!! Another great addition to the waffle, the asterisk, and the battered Roman helmet.

... no, really they have. Is there anything they won't do a 180 on just as long as it's tangentially related to Obama?

Has anyone ventured into wingnut land to check out their reaction to Hagel?

I mean, they gotta be going crazee!

The Self-Defeating Culture of the Netroots

If the Netroots enables ordinary citizens to get around the traditional political, economic, and media gatekeepers, its also true that the denizens of the Blogosphere are so fiercely egalitarian and anti-elitist that they resist delegating any authority, moral or political, to leaders that emerge within the movement. Bloggers that make money are resented. Bloggers that gain fame are mocked. Bloggers that have access are suspicious. Bloggers that are hired onto campaigns or get real paying jobs with health care benefits are accused of selling out. The movement is actually starved of cash.

No, that is not what people are unhappy about. People are unhappy that those who started as media critics began to engage in the very behavior that they formerly mocked, in some cases repeating the same lies.

There is nothing wrong with having access. There is nothing wrong with running a campaign press release. There is something wrong with using anonymous sources, of spreading smears without even telling your readers what the source of those smears are.

There is something wrong with interpreting every criticism as jealousy.

Because I thought that BooMan had, er, somebody in mind when he talked about "leaders that emerge."

Hey, maybe Obama can get Hagel to help him out with some of those pesky voting machine issues!

Everyone knows that Democrats are weak, weak, weak on national security and defense. What better way of making the American people feel safe than putting someone in charge that is strong on defense. IOW it takes a Republican. There is not ONE Democrat that could possibly do the job. They are all wimpy and it would be a complete disaster. All Americans would be at serious risk. Better put Lugar at State too if we want a competent foreign policy.

There are no Democrats worthy of those positions. They all suck. The talent pool in the Dem party has been drained.
