Hackers post BillO website accounts online

intranets's picture

So after the Palin Yahoo social engineering / hacking of her email account, Bill O'Reilly was up in arms and caught the attention of internet griefers for his obvious embracing of the internet is serious business™

Gawker is in hot water over the situation to the point Bill O'Reilly is calling for law enforcement to go after the site because of phone numbers (including those of Palin's kids) and other personal information posted there as a result of the hack.

From this G4tv article it was clear the movement was afoot to torment BillO. However, some online hackers discovered a link to the online jsp admin page which apparently had no password protection at all.

This lead to a wikileaks posting of BillO customer account information and passwords.

Wired - O'Reilly Hacked for Comments about Palin Hack

Wikileaks - Bill O'Reilly hacked 2008

For the record, both the Palin email and BillO acct info was not "hacking". It was using publicly available information to exploit major security flaws. In the case of BillO it was finding the URL for the admin mgmt page. In the case of Palin it was improperly reseting her password. Sure it is illegal and a bad idea, but in reality these kid hackers are doing people a favor. I'd rather pranksters have done this to embarrass people than Russia or Mossad hackers getting into the future VP's email to blackmail people. Or Chinese or Russian identity theft folks stealing BillO's customer data to the tune of millions of dollars in identity theft.

as quickly as I could when I saw what had happened.

Is there no grace period? Even for a sinner such as I?

Many HaHaHas. Bad of the crackers to bust in on BillO. Terrible, condemn, disapprove.

MBFTHSTH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH.

... and people do tend not to fix these things, so better not to leave it the coment up all night. Take a lot at the stickied post... Lots of, er, interesting material there. Reading it, I can see that the first order of business is indeed to stop the insane $800 billion giveaway, but also that people want alternatives; they really are ready to listen.

Or Chinese or Russian identity theft folks stealing BillO’s customer data to the tune of millions of dollars in identity theft.

It could be traced to BillO's site, couldn't it?
Ruinous, for BillO. By extension also for Fox, perchance?

This...

"I’d rather pranksters have done this to embarrass people than Russia or Mossad hackers getting into the future VP’s email to blackmail people."

...is a false choice.
