Grover Norquist TV--Love Him or Hate Him, He "Has The Goods On" The Democrats [01:23]

Thread:

FOUND THIS TAPE AND TRANSCRIPT TO BE QUITE INTERESTING. AND FRANKLY, I'D TAKE NORQUIST'S WORD 'TO THE BANK' ON TAX MATTERS.

SO, THIS IS THE 'TRUE' POSITION OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY WHEN IT COMES TO TAX REFORM. JUST WHAT I SUSPECTED.

HERE'S THE TRANSCRIPT:

00:00:04 DO, AT THE ONE THING HE COULD HAVE A COMPROMISE ON, MAYBE THE ONLY THING YOU HAVE A REAL COMPROMISE, IS WHERE ONE IS REPUBLICANS LIKE THE SAVINGS FOR THE SEQUESTERED BUT THEY DO NOT WANT TO COME OUT.

00:00:21 THE DEMOCRATS THEORETICALLY WOULD LIKE THE SEQUESTERS SAVINGS, BUT THEY DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO CUT DOMESTIC DISCRETIONARY SPENDING.

00:00:27 THEY WOULD BOTH LIKE TO IN THE SEQUESTERED BUT REPUBLICANS WILL NOT DO IT IN A WAY THAT ALLOWS SPENDING TO GO HIGHER RATHER THAN LOWER.

00:00:36 YOU CAN TAKE THAT ALL OUT OF ENTITLEMENTS.

00:00:39 YOU COULD DELAY CERTAIN ENTITLEMENTS IN THE FUTURE.

00:00:43 REPUBLICANS WOULD RATHER TAKE IT OUT OF A DIFFUSED ENTITLEMENT THING THE NEXT YEAR'S DEFENSE BUDGET.

00:00:48 AND DEMOCRATS WOULD MUCH RATHER TAKE IT OUT OF A DIFFUSED LONG-TERM ENTITLEMENT REFORM, THAN OUT OF DOMESTIC DISCRETIONARY.

00:00:53 I COULD SEE THIS BEING MADE TO CUT DISCRETIONARY IN HALF.

00:01:04 THAT WOULD BE A REAL COMPROMISE.

00:01:08 BOTH WOULD ACTUALLY GET SOMETHING THEY PREFERRED TO THE STATUS QUO.

00:01:12 WE DID NOT RAISE TAXES.

00:01:15 WE DID NOT NOT CUT SPENDING.

00:01:20 THE PROJECTED DEFICITS WERE NOT AFFECTED.

Not that it isn't plausible, but it sounds more like it is his position dressed up as a "compromise" he thinks the Dems should live with.

But, I actually believe him. And here's why.

I don't have time to try and find it right now, but I ran across a video of Bill Clinton at the Pete Peterson Foundation (not long ago), in which he looked into the audience to find Peterson, and acknowledged that he (Peterson) was right about his prescription for a growing economy (GDP): education, infrastructure and research and development (R&D). Just exactly what President Obama has said over, and over, and over again.

And that is exactly what is referred to as "domestic discretionary spending," which Norquist says the Democrats so desperately want.

But I've sure been wrong before. (Like my prediction about the evangelicals pouring out to vote this election cycle. Heck, sounds like not many white folks, who make up the "conservative" evangelical base, bothered to vote--religious or secular.) ;)

He talks about these cuts so dispassionately, like he's sorting through a box of puzzle pieces to figure out which one goes where, instead of people's lives.

I'd love to combine his words with images from real life -- long lines for job applications, families living on the streets, someone being carried out of a foreclosed home, and all the rest. Because "entitlements" is such a bloodless word, it really doesn't convey what we're talking about -- people not being able to pay rent, buy food, get medical care, THAT'S what the cuts do. This is not balancing someone's checkbook -- it's taking food out of children's mouths and turning off the heat in an elderly person's room.

Anyway, Grover's a dick (apologies for the sexist comment, but Grover does bring out the worst in me), and maybe someday someone will explain why anyone gives this bonehead the time of day.

a video doesn't entail a whole lot. You simply click on the share button, and if it gives an embed option, copy it, and paste it here (selecting the full html option for format). And, occasionally, and I don't know why, a video has to be copies into the "hyperlink" url box. Sort of strange, but I've seen that a few times.

It doesn't take any particular skill. I know I thought it might be hard, and was shocked to find out how easy it is. (And it's fun. I guess it's obvious, I like video and pictures/images a lot.)

Try that, and if it doesn't work, let me know, and maybe we can "do one" in real time, somehow. (I'm not very good at giving instructions. Lambert could probably do a much better job.)

BTW, Mr. Alexa (and I) think your little "fur baby" is a cutie, with his/her gray whiskers. We love his/her sweet expression, too.
