If you have "no place to go," come here!

Goebbels was right, wasn't he?

Via (Sideshow (Crooked Timber)):

Today’s college freshmen probably don’t remember much about politics before President Bush, and the war as been going on for most of their teenage years. Combine that with the administration’s fine line in disinformational BS and, as Rob remarks in a comment elsewhere, this is what you get:

I have now received three (3) student papers that discuss Iraq’s attack on the Twin Towers on 9/11. All three papers mention it as an aside to another point. I’ve had two papers on the virtue of forgiveness that argue that if we had just forgiven Iraq for the 9/11 attacks, we wouldn’t be at war right now. I just read a paper on the problem of evil which asked why God allowed “the Iraq’s” to attack us on 9/11. The thing that upsets me most here is that the the students don’t just believe that that Iraq was behind 9/11. This is a big fact in their minds, that leaps out at them, whenever they think about the state of the world.

The loyal Bushies really should be cast into the nethermost pits of abomination, shouldn't they?

If ignorance is a sin... Well, this situation is covered by Luke 17:2.

NOTE So, it's OK to take their oil, then? I'm glad that's sorted.

Well, they would certainly find a way to make a profit from the nethermost pits of abomination and these kids would be glad to get a good job in them.

that much. it's what they do as young adults entering the 20s that concerns me. that is, education and wisdom are almost always wasted on the young, in the sense that most of the time, they don't start using it until years later. so i'm all for giving them these things, but i don't expect to see the signs immediately.

young people need, after education, opportunity. that's where we're really blowing it. not only are we allowing the bar to fall, in terms of standards in public education, but we're also not providing young people with the promise of a dynamic future. think like a teen again for a minute goth music, black clothes, purple hair "dood, it's obvious that all the adults in the world are cheats and liars who act on belief in fantasy, why should i be any different?" critical thinking, if it comes, will be in the minds of those who are challenged in some way.
