Reading your post was nice--a chance to smile! Bill Moyers, too.

On Bill Moyers' Journal tonight, a Liberian woman, Leymah Gbowee, who started a group called The Market Women, made up of Christian and Muslim women. Her story has been documented in the film, "Pray the Devil Back to Hell."

Leymah Gbowee and her countrywomen were so desperate they decided to try and put a stop to the fighting. Armed with only a simple white t-shirt, they took to the streets knowing they could well be beaten and killed. They became "the market women," cajoling the fighting men and employing a tactic so old it was once used by the women of ancient Greece: No peace, no sex. (My emphasis)

Wonder if this might work for single payer....

Impressive woman.

[hi, bio!

happy father's day!]

that's a great thing the boy scout is doing. we've had a little contretemps here in my town in the recent past over giving out free food to the homeless in public parks, something i'd always thought only happened in other towns. as a possible workaround, i've wondered if buying a case of mres and leaving them in places frequented by the homeless would work.

the dog and i used to get up early on sunday mornings, pick up a bag of sausage biscuits from mcdonalds drive through, and take them, with a case of bottled water, to the park. they've since put up those benches that you can't lie down on comfortably, rebuilt the overpasses so they look like this instead of like this, and the police have upped their patrols of some of the vacant wooded areas, so i'm not sure what clever idea i'll have to come up with next to get food to some people.

sorry, i didn't mean to be a downer. on a brighter note, i'm taking my parents on a picnic to the beach for fathers day. wine and fried chicken are on the menu.
