Filling out AARP Social Security and Medicare Poll
AARP has a survey going on Social Security and Medicare. Here's how I filled in answers to question (the multiple choice answers are, I think, obvious):
On Social Security:
4. Which of the following do you think is the biggest challenge facing Social Security? [x] Other
That banks will loot my retirement money, in collaboration with both major parties, and AARP's captured management running interference for them.
5. What's the one thing you would do to strengthen Social Security for future retirees?
Lower the eligibility age for full benefits to 60 so elders can get out of the job market and give younger workers a better chance.
And on Medicare:
2. Which of the following do you think is the biggest challenge facing Medicare?
That the health insurance and pharmaceutical companies, in collaboration with both major parties, will privatize and destroy Medicare, with AARP's captured management running interference for them.
5. Medicare funding mostly comes from general federal revenues, dedicated Medicare taxes, and premiums from people in Medicare. As health care costs rise, what's the best source for additional Medicare funds?
Implement Medicare for All (single payer). Eliminating the $350 billion dollars the health insurance companies extract from the system is more than sufficient to cover those who are not covered now.
What's the one thing you would do to strengthen Medicare for future retirees?
Also, I rewrote the letter AARP supplies to send to my reps as follows:
Cut either Medicare or Social Security, and I will vote for the other candidate, of whatever party, and actively work for your defeat.
