Single-payer health care: dead in Washington, but alive in the states
Two state legislatures – Vermont and California – have, in fact, passed single-payer legislation in recent years only to have them vetoed by Republican governors. But California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) is ineligible to run for a third term and Gov. Jim Douglas (R) of Vermont has decided not to seek reelection. Either of these states could soon become the first to pass a statewide, public healthcare system that covers everyone.
Obviously much depends upon who gets elected governor. The same kleptocracy which installed the Gropinator undoubtedly have someone new in mind. I certainly don't have much confidence in California glibetarian bloggers to see through their plans. However California and Vermont have some very good local bloggers. Local bloggers have the power to affect elections and legislation WAY beyond their readership. There are so few sources of local news that anyone who takes it up has some influence.

I didn't know Vermont was taking another crack at single-payer.
Good for them.
I'm still hoping Pennsylvania can come through this fall. Though I hear that Republicans control the state senate, so the prospects may be more unlikely than I had first believed.
Nothing is true; everything is permitted.
