Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.

there's probably more, but i'm only halfway through the article....
so, everybody likes bundles of sticks and the bundle of sticks WITHOUT axe blades - and i don't see any axe blades here - are generally a benign symbol.
Well, a few things
First of all, I don't think the parallels to the Roman Empire should be overlooked. Fiddles all around!
Also, I've read of fasces being used as an SBDM instrument, so there is THAT parallel as well. ;D

they like black leather too,
they like black leather too, but i still not giving up my nice warm coat.
but back to the fasces, if it's good enough for the workers unions and the lincoln memorial, then it's hard for me to see it as a fascist symbol, or even a symbol of the roman empire. in fact, i wasn't aware of either of those 2 uses until i read the wikipedia article.
I think an endlessly circular fasces with a hidden axe....
... is a fine metaphor for today's Ds, just as a linear fasces with an exposed axe is a fine metaphor for the Rs.
So, to me, no more "a bundle of sticks" than, say, two pieces of wood nailed together at right angles are...

nice metaphor
if a bit obscure (though probably not as obscure than the sheaves of wheat that i thought of, before reading the wikipedia article).
