Denzel Washington stared in a 2002 movie called "John Q" about an average Joe Public whose child needs a procedure the insurance at his job won't cover -- despite yards of paperwork showing the insurance should cover everything. Hospital administrator Anne Heche gives a performance every bit as spit-worthy as any real "accounts manager" you'll ever meet, if you're in a medical crisis. Of course, the ending is what you'd expect: the system wins....the family loses.
There's a sequence near the end with clips of real speeches by Sen. Hillary Clinton, Bill Maher and others, about the "health care system" in this country and who we, the citizens, have to blame for it. I disagree with the premise that our refusal to pay taxes is the sole cause, but I do believe our demand for continual tax cuts -- in the face of and as a faux cure for everything -- contributed very heavily to the problem.
What to do? How to make it better?
You tell me.

Universal Health Care
I agree with your comments, but I have to remind readers that this country was built on individuality and capitalism, and to expect this to change after hundreds of years of slaughter in the pursuit of getting ahead might be futile. We have done whatever it takes to get ourselves and our family ahead, to hell with what it costs the anyone else. We are not as generous or altruistic a society as we would like the world (or maybe even ourselves?) to think.
Everyone seems to point the finger at someone else when it comes to fault...and everyone with a "cause" seems to have an alterior motive. ESPECIALLY POLITICIANS. E.g., Al Gore. [I quoted this definition of Politician directly from the Houghton Mifflin Dictionary: "Politician: One who seeks personal or partisan gain, often by scheming and maneuvering:"
"Mothers may still want their favorite sons to grow up to be President, but . . . they do not want them to become politicians in the process" (John F. Kennedy)
In short, I hope you find the answer!
