When a joint was making the rounds, [Obama] often elbowed his way in, out of turn, shouted "Intercepted!," and took an extra hit. No one seemed to mind.

We're all entitled to a misspent youth.

However, only a few of us get to throw people in jail for harmless behavior we ourselves indulged in.

do you know that his grandmother was a bankster? those were the days when banking was boring; it's entirely possible that she and her bank both were good and useful citizens.

are you considering all interest to be usury?

she appears to have retired in 1986. those were the reagan years, so it's possible that she was truly a bankster at the end, but based on the description of her lifestyle, she never made a bankster-sized salary.

And I can't help but think that one reason sharia law is demonized is precisely that it doesn't permit interest....

Applying interest was acceptable under some circumstances. Currencies that were based on guarantees by a government to honor the stated value (i.e. fiat currency) or based on other materials such as paper or base metals were allowed to have interest applied to them.[10]

probably you're overthinking this one. probably the demonization of sharia law stems entirely from the well-known fact that the huns commies muslims are one day all going to land on american shores and kill us all in our beds.
