Democratic party vacuum

DCblogger's picture

Under Obama the Democratic party has lost its majorities in the House, Senate, Governors, and state legislatures. That opens up a lot of opportunities for the left wing of the Democratic party, and for emergent parties with an eye to the main chance. Bernie is right, it won't matter who is in the White House if we do not have a mass movement, which will include, amongst other things, hundreds of new lefty elected officials.

In other words, it is time to think about 2016 as a local election. So what is happening in your jurisdiction? Anything the Corrente community should be aware of?

.. because the Left told itself it had nowhere else to go. I think there's a more basic change that needs to happen among progressive voters, which is that they need to make their votes and support contingent on those they support and vote for doing what they voted them into office to do. Successful politicians know they don't need to please supporters who won't go elsewhere; they only need to please those who will.

With that logic in mind, both refusing to support DINOs and looking to other parties is implicit. What's more, that change in attitude would help ensure that a Green or Socialist Party in power did not disappoint as thoroughly as the Democrats of today.

...local politics would make any difference at all?
What do you not understand that "politics" are irrelevant, voting is irrelevant nationally, and it's all controlled by the Wizard of Oz; to resort to allegory...
The only thing about "American" politics is that American's think/believe their votes still count; they do not!.
Until and unless, one grasps that fact; that one can change nothing, where change counts...
Prove me wrong...
What "you" need, you do not even consider...

... is that no alternative is ever posed.

A religious awakening?

Proletarian vanguard?

Collapse followed by localism?

Return to matriarchy?

Absolute monarchy?

Quietism?

Nihilism?

What? I don't find "teh suxx0r" very useful or enlightening, frankly. What's the point?

I happen to agree with Sheldon Wolin and Chris Hedges; the solution, the only solution is revolution. Nothing less will suffice.
I have avoided that word because I see no clue, here, that it's even a thought. Just look at your list of possibilities; revolution is nowhere to be found.
The system, the almighty system is uber alas; it's flat busted; the emperor has no clothes...

Revolution; in the streets with guns, violence, murder and mayhem, no?
No. That definition/picture lacks imagination/intelligence, IMO.
How about a total withdrawal of support? What does that mean? Think about it; what would it mean; day to day, week by week, and month by month? I see vast possibilities not yet explored. Dare I say, revolutionary...
TINA; if you want the country you thought you had...
