Cuomodämmerung: He'll win, but he's going to look awful dumb doing it

This is a delicious column from Albany Times-Union's Capitol Confidential. So Teachout debated Republican Astorino and an empty chair, because Cuomo couldn't be bothered to show up. Hilarity ensues, first from New York Democratic Party hack -- sorry for the redundancy -- Basil Patterson:

Providing a platform for Rob Astorino to promote his extreme conservative agenda – anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-gun safety – will do nothing to further the progressive movement in New York.

Capitol Confidential comments:

Paterson’s statement is … curious. Following its logic, every debate between members of different parties is a betrayal of both parties’ agendas.

Then another factional leader weighs in:

Update: State Sen. Jeff Klein, the leader of the Independent Democratic Conference, just got in on the action, releasing the following statement:

Why would any progressive Democrat give right-wing Republican Rob Astorino a platform to broadcast his anti-women, anti-LGBT, anti-worker views? This sad gimmick is backfiring because New Yorkers know a publicity stunt when they see one. If Zephyr Teachout actually cares about Democrats, she should stop doing debates that elevate an extreme conservative.

Capitol Confidential comments:

Yes! Why would any Democrat be so base as to give Republicans such a platform — or, for that matter, enable them to control the state Senate?

BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!!! Because, for those who came in late, Cuomo struck a deal with the Republicans to do exactly that.

If Andrew Cuomo actually cares about Democrats, he should debate Teachout, a legitimate Democratic candidate. Wanker.

... who vote in the primary think of the state Dem establishment. It's hard for me to believe they voted in DeBlasio so he could, in essence, bet on the Moreland investigation coming to nothing (though maybe Schumer tipped Cuomo the wink?)
