Mystery plant
I have no idea what this plant is. I purchased it from a nursery whose primary business is landscaping. The owner is an eccentric plant collector. When I purchased this plant (a few years ago) most of her plants were not labeled, so if you needed to know what you were buying, you had to ask. No label = no memory. The plant was rosette like and didn't bloom for a number of years. After it bloomed, it died. Made for a nice picture anyway.

Readers, please send twig (twig4now@gmail.com) images and stories for the ongoing Plantidote of the Day series. In exchange, you'll win undying fame in the form of a hat tip! Plants growing in your garden, your house, or neighbor's yard, plants from the forest or farmers' market, plants you preserved, plants you prepared (wine; cider; tea; dried beans), plants you harvested (grains; chantrelles), plants you picked (flowers), plants you dried (herbs), plants you covet or hope to grow someday. Herbal remedies, propagation tips, new varieties, etc.. And if you can, include some solid detail about the plant, too -- a story, the genus and species, or where you got the seeds, or the recipe, or your grandmother gave it to you. Or challenge us with a "Name That Plant" mystery entry ... And please feel free to add corrections and additional information in the comments.

Wow, that's a tough one.
What do (did) the leaves look like?
I'll be twisting that photo around in my mind all day trying to place that plant.
I love a challenge!

Very interesting! This deserves some research. It looks like some sort of allium, like this perhaps? Was it a bulb?

A beautiful mystery plant!
Re: Weekend Plantidote 2013-02-23
Not an allium. It's not a bulb. The plant itself grew in a rosette form was about 12" in diameter before it sent up flower stalks. Seemed to be drought tolerant as I had it planted in the cactus bed.
These are lovely muted colors!
Very February.
Whatever it is, I love it!
But I'm having no luck solving the mystery. This is a tough one!
Re: Weekend Plantidote 2013-02-23
Nice! Could it be some sort of umbelliferous plant (Apiaceae)?
