montreal... it's the only part of canada i've ever visited. i was captivated, utterly captivated. did not want to leave.
we did eventually come back to the states, had to show our drivers licenses at the border to get back in. the border people were polite and friendly, laughing and joking with us, asking us how we liked canada [carload of college students, all visiting for the first time, went to the jazz festival, loved it all!]
they smiled and nodded over the kentuckian's license, especially seemed to approve of the massachusettsian's license, took one look at my license [florida] --
OK EVERYBODY OUT OF THE CAR NOW! OUT! GET OUT!
they spent 2 hours searching the car for drugs, took off the hubcaps, pulled up carpeting, took the film out of our cameras, debated bringing in a drug dog [would have had to wait anothr 2-4 hours, so they decided no]. made the quebec separatists, who were reputed to be especially unruly at the time and about whom we'd been warned in no uncertain terms, sound like teddy bears.
I'd love to visit
Over the past few years I've met a lot of Canadians online who've really piqued my interest in Canada. Ironically, I had friends growing up who were Canadian expats but I really didn't think of them any differently than I did the kids that had moved here from places like Michigan or Ohio.
At any rate, you should've said you were with the Florida Tourism Bureau and/or State Dept. and threatened to place some kind of Snowbird Tariff on all incoming and outgoing Snowbirds the following winter!

Because even now, its obvious that it will simply be a repeat of everything that was wrong with ProgBlog 1.0... especially the "3 minute hate" and 'groupthink' aspects of it.
I mean, when you have idiots like Marcotte declaring PUMApac to be a fraud based on a February 2000 contribution to McCain, and that claim mindlessly going viral before anyone stopped to think about it (let alone check her further contribution records) what is the point?

She and Melissa McEwan were not fired. They voluntarily left because Donahue was successful in making them a distraction for the Edwards campaign.
And I really don't think that retched victory on behalf of Bill Donahue's Catholic League(membership 1) is something that PB 2.0 should be celebrating.
What was done to Amanda and Liss was vile, and the main purpose was to remind them of "their place".
I'm not happy about Amanda's piece, but I've seen a lot of smug gloating over what happened to Amanda(and Melissa, don't forget). You can disagree with what she wrote about PUMApac, and even about what she says about Catholics, but we shouldn't be celebrating the trumped up media brouhaha that has taken out more than one progressive fighter, and will continue to do so, so long as they continue to use against people we don't like.

The simple fact is that the demand for actual intelligent consideration of the issues is very small -- and unless you are a C or D list blogger, inevitably the Obots and three-minute-haters will show up and destroy any discussion.
IMHO, true progressives have already rejected Obama... and that what you are really talking about here is "Re-Crashing the Gates" of the Village, including the Democratic Party leadership and the media.
But my guess is that "ProgBlog 2.0" will start from the assumption that Obama must be elected in order for a progressive agenda to be enacted. That, IMHO, is a load of crap, because Obama is NOT a progressive, he's simply a narcissistic who wants to have people kiss his ass and call him "Mr. President."

Issues, not Parties or candidates
How did the creamy go bad? They were spawned out of anti-Bush sentiment and only defined as being "against" something as opposed to affirmatively for something. I've said it before when you survive to oppose, you will find something to hate. PB1 was lost after Bush was no longer the enemy and focused their hate on Hillary.
The goal of a movement should be to sway *both* parties and public sentiment, not align with a single party or candidate. PB1 never understood that. They liked their presumed power more than changing the debate.
I'm a partisan but want a progressive movement independent of any Party/candidate.
