By popular demand, here's some more Moe. He's now 3 months old, 26 pounds, and about 6 inches taller. It's a good thing there happens to be a photographer living in the guest house, because... well...
Bluewit, the cat
Courtesy of correntian NWLuna, we have a Petidote with a real cat to admire today. Meet Bluewit, who has a story attached to his name, but we'll let NWL tell it, mostly because I don't know what it is.
I'm not sure if Bluewit is singing in this picture or if the vet asked him to open wide and say "Ahhhh" or if he's just bored with us, although I'm leaning toward the latter. If we're lucky, NWL will come by and tell us more about this handsome guy. Read more about Petidote of the Day 2012-11-30
Cats with Thumbs
Featuring Bertrum Thumbcat
Are climate change, stolen elections, geopolitical instability, and kleptocrats messing with the economy keeping you up at night? If so, it's only because you are not aware of the much more insidious threat to humankind -- and you better pay attention, people, because they're coming. Yes, it's cats with thumbs!! Welcome to The Chickens Come Home To Roost: Part 2 of the Petidote series on backyard chickens. When we last checked in with insanely sane's flock, the 11 peeps were only days old (above). In the image below, they're five weeks old and look how much more chicken-like they are! Read more about Petidote of the Day 2012-08-24
The best hen house ever! (Part One)
A few weeks ago, Correntian insanely sane mentioned that she had chickens. And so I'm all like, "Pics please," and voila -- here they are! Insanely documented the building of the hen house, made largely from found materials and what was on hand. So even though it looks plush, it cost very little. Plus, there are pictures of baby chicks (awwwww!) in their new home. Even if you're not into chickens, this is a very cool story.
Ernie napping in the dog toy basket
If you have cat(s), you know how clever they are when it comes to finding weird places to sleep. But there's nothing like finding your cat snoozing in the sink, in your shoe, in the clean laundry basket (gee, thanks for replacing all the pet hair lost to the washer!). It never gets old! So here are 25 cats who have found the perfect place to relax -- and look goofy at the same time. Read more about Petidote of the Day 2012-08-10
Featuring Buttermilk, the baby Nigerian pygmy goat
Take a Leap Farm, Houlton, Maine
Hey, grumpy!! Over here! Got something that'll make you smile, maybe even LOL. Clearly, Buttermilk needs to switch to decaf. Or else the other goats should get some of whatever it is that is making her such a little clown. Happy Friday!!
Readers, please send twig (firstname.lastname@example.org) images and stories for the ongoing Petidote of the Day series. It doesn't have to be your own pet. We're not too proud to repost YouTubes or other goofy pet videos. And in exchange, you'll win undying fame in the form of a hat tip! Pretty great, right? Bird's nest in white bird of paradise
This is actually not a Petidote, technically speaking, but Birdidote didn't sound quite right. Anyway, aside from a better title, we need someone who knows something about birds to identify this one. The nest (look closely -- it's there in the center of the image!) is somehow stuck on the side of a leaf, so it's hanging vertically. The leaf must be one wall of the nest -- pretty cool!
