“Wasn’t that awful what happened to Jill Stein?”
It was the first thing I said to my coworker through the wall of our adjoining cubes when I got back to work on Friday night. R___’s a trusted friend and an avid daily reader and watcher and listener of current events, including what I used to consider the “hard stuff”, like the NYT, Atlantic, New Yorker, NewsHour, NPR, etc. I’ll bring up a news tidbit, R__ can not only be counted on to have heard about it, but to fill in the details for me.
R____ is also extremely respectful to me as a Green Party advocate. He is one of my very few coworkers who wouldn’t respond to my question with, “Who the hell is Jill Stein?” Instead, he responded:
“Why? What happened to Jill Stein?”

RE-POST from 7-14-2011
The audacity of shamelessness. Empathy-challenged (war criminal) Obama is pretending he cares about military suicides.
I waited a few days to write this to see if my intensely bitter reaction to Obama's last week’s press conference would subside. It has not. In fact reading about the pride some progressives feel about Obama’s shamelessly hypocritical grandstanding sickens me even further.
One of the reasons slot machines in Vegas have so much power to keep you engaged is that just when you’re ready to surrender to the reality of your no-win misery a few coins drop down the slot and you unwisely stay engaged rather than cut your losses and leave. Read below the fold...

I picked up a provocative book by John J. Mearshimer in B&N today, “Why Leaders Lie -- The Truth About Lying In International Politics” (Oxford, 2011). I highly recommend it. Mearshimer rationally but bluntly explores past and current deadly global military crises promoted by the mendacity of leading “players.” Read below the fold...

Last night Obama looked Amnesiac Americans in the eye and re-won their hearts, apparently.
Yes, indeedy, he scored. He seems from the a.m. media buzz today to be out-teflon-ing Reagan. With a lot of help from his vast corporate media enablers, jumping the shark imho in their triangulation of Palin to eclipse the darker reality of the Obama regime. Read below the fold...

Eric Margolis writes on what he calls "the over-militarization of US foreign policy" and the political opportunism of generals and political leaders shamelessly and callously continuing to risk countless lives and the quality of countless lives to justify another wrong-headed war. Margolis:
"... a political whitewash issued by the Obama White House claiming the war was going well and some US troops might be withdrawn next year. This 'don't worry be happy' summary was trumpeted by the pro-war New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and other members of the government-friendly US media..."

On Friday, Glenn Greenwald did a piece called "What Collapsing Empire Looks Like," in which he contrasted the cutbacks in essential domestic spending throughout the country with the "no problem" funding of Homeland Security and our two wars. Among other things he said: Read below the fold...
