Obama Drops in Electoral Vote Forecasts (Political Wire)
For the first time, Sen. Barack Obama dropped below 270 votes over at Electoral-Vote.com and Sen. John McCain is actually ahead in the RCP tally.

NBC/WSJ Poll: McCain halves Obama's lead (NBC News)
[P]erhaps the biggest factor keeping the presidential race close has been Obama’s inability to close the deal with some of Hillary Clinton’s supporters. According to the poll, 52 percent of them say they will vote for Obama, but 21 percent are backing McCain, with an additional 27 percent who are undecided or want to vote for someone else… Clinton edges [McCain] by six points in a hypothetical match up, 49 to 43 percent. The new GWU Battleground poll shows Sen. John McCain just edging Sen. Barack Obama, 40% to 39%.

Hillary NOT Releasing Delegates (by Alegre)
I just got a note from a friend who was on a conference call with Hillary yesterday. I want to get two things out here for you guys to ponder…
1) Harold Ickes said the new magic number is … 2211.
2) Hillary said a few words about unity and winning in Nov. but she said NOTHING about releasing her delegates.
Not a word.
So let's keep our head down - contact as many delegates as we can in the coming days - and stay strong.

From Ricki Lieberman, via email
Yes, you heard right (or correctly) - Senator Clinton IS NOT releasing her delegates and IS asking that they vote for her on the first ballot… Somewhere out there is the slate of delegates you voted for. Please call them and be sure that they are representing you at the convention by voting for Senator Clinton. Please do not delay, and also call your Democratic Senators, your Congressional rep and Governor to let them know how important it is for them to vote for Hillary on the first ballot. A week to go - let's make the most of it.

Clinton creates 'whip team' to quell anti-Obama protests (AP, thanks to Lambert at Corrente)
In an unusual move, Hillary Clinton's staff is creating a 40-member "whip team" at the Denver Democratic convention to ensure that her supporters don't engage in embarrassing anti-Obama demonstrations during the floor vote on her nomination, according to people familiar with the planning.
The objective of a whip is to keep the voters for a particular issue voting for that particular issue. I hope Hillary is going all out to win this damn nomination. Or maybe these are the election watchers that have been recommended by some Hillary supporters.—Caro

the only way Barry appears to be able to win is when he has no opponent (State Senate race), when his opponents are "suddenly" and "mysteriously" revealed to be wife abusers (Blair Hull) or sex-in-public addicts (Jim Ryan), or when his opponent is a raving lunatic (Keyes)..

oh, and when he cheats like a freakn bandit.

I hope that she isn't. She'd have then fulfilled every negative stereotype ever ascribed to her, and she would lose the general election, mightily. The only thing she should be doing is letting the cards fall where they may.

The wish that she's working behind the scenes to spring a uprising seems incredibly irrational and self-destructive, to me. One thing is for sure, Obama made sure in how he ran his campaign that whomever comes out of the convention the winner will have to work twice as hard to win in November as they ever would have had to have been otherwise.

It's time for the DNC to take its lumps. It's time for them to be shown the error in their ways, and the best way to do that is to...give them who and what they want.

She has a career and family to worry about. If she was caught actively working to undo what the DNC did, her political obituary would be true, this time. No, she actually does have more to lose if she went about the convention the way some of her fans want her to.

This isn't even really about her, anymore, anyway. For me, this is about DNC reform, and is independent of whether she was the nominee or not. In fact, for DNC reform, I think it's actually better that she not be the nominee. I don't want the DNC's inevitable implosion to happen under her presidency.

Let the OFB run back into the burning building. I know that I won't have anything to do with trying to save the lost cause that is the Democratic Party.
