Poll: Voters prefer McCain to handle Russia (Hot off the Trail, McClatchy)
By a large margin, voters think John McCain is better qualified than Barack Obama to handle Russia, according to a new poll released today by Quinnipiac University. That has helped McCain gain slightly on Obama, who still leads nationally. In July, Obama led by 50-41 percent, or 9 points. Now, Obama leads 47-42, or 5 points. Since the Russian fighting in Georgia put Russia back on the political radar scope, likely voters preferred McCain to handle such an issue by a margin of 55-27 percent, the survey found.

Tuesday: Fear of Foolishness (by riverdaughter at The Confluence)
Wouldn’t it just be embarrassing for [Obama] if we made him cancel his [coronation] plans? Damn right it’s embarrassing. But considerably less so than losing the election in the fall, the third in a row, in a year when Democrats had every possible advantage going for them. We could not lose, we told ourselves. And now, we’re looking like the biggest losers on the planet. Who will take us seriously after this?

Quote of the Day (Political Wire )
"There is a sense of entitlement that almost seems to be inbred. They are convinced Hillary is the one who should be assuming the mantle and it's tough to crack that." -- Former Clinton White House Chief of Staff Leon Panetta, quoted by the Times of London, on the reluctance of some Clinton supporters to back Sen. Barack Obama.
Earth to Leon, please STFU until you actually talk to some Clinton supporters. It is NOT out of a sense of entitlement that we continue to support her. It’s OUT OF A SENSE OF ROBBERY! You really sound stupid when you don’t know what you’re talking about.—Caro

Oh, man...

I remember watching electoral vote back in 2004. Great site, but bad, bad memories.

[ ] Very tepidly voting for Obama [ ] ?????. [ ] Any mullah-sucking billionaire-teabagging torture-loving pus-encrusted spawn of Cthulhu, bless his (R) heart.

Yes, I believe we were supposed to win ...

... back then, too.

Dropping like a Ba-rock

Or even - Between Ba-rock

and a hard place.

Oh, lambert

You had to go there. The pain, the pain! And I didn't even like John Kerry.

Yeah, I went to bed...

... believing that Kerry was going to challenge the Ohio vote. Silly me.

I went to bed knowing he'd win it because no way Warren County

would close the vote for no good reason. Wasn't that idealisitic? I still don't know whether the cows or the soybeans were the bigger terrorist target that night. Or maybe the cows were the ones planning the attack. Vote counting occurred less than 2 miles from my home, should I have been at red threat level, or perhaps fuschia?

You say "inbred" like it's a bad thing

It's all relative

So Many Votes to Challenge

New Mexico should also have been challenged, IMO. Long history of voting problems there and close elections.

Instead, Kerry decided to take his "Gore moment" and go home. I hope it was good for him. It sure as hell wasn't good for anyone else.

Panetta has it backwards--

the sense of entitlement is coming from Obama and his supporters--and they fixed it all to make sure it was him--and it turns off millions of us Dems, let alone other voters.

Exactly.

Caro

It's going to be a very long and very interesting week.

I love this job!

But I guess if it ain't ba rock or ba roque don't fix it.

I love this job!

Biden Not VP

At least that's how it sounds.

If it's Kaine, btw, I'm out. He's an anti-choice gay baiter and if I wanted to vote for that, I'd vote for McCain.

is Kaine the one who was a missionary?

it's probably him

: <

VP is not a missionary position?

It's going to be somebody ...

... who doesn't outshine (oops, is that racist) the Lightbringer.

did you guys see this horror about downticket voting in NC?

"... In North Carolina, Michael Lawson -- one of the presidents of the NC Democratic Party’s African-American Caucus (NCDPAAC) -- announced that black people should vote for Obama but not for any down-ticket white candidates. ..." -- http://cannonfire.blogspot.com/2008/08/h...

I Can Live With Someone Who Doesn't Outshine Obama

that's not my issue. I don't care about charisma, although that would be nice, I care about issues. Kaine is a signal that women should enjoy their second class status within the party, it's here to stay.

"change"

Hi folks, RCP has again updated its electoral map, Its now 264 for Obama and 274 for McCain!!!

Are those pebbles or rocks that I hear falling on the roof?
