Born to Be Viled

Judy Miller was invited to give an award to "Deep Throat" Mark Felt last night, by the Society of Professional Journalists which probably in retrospect wishes they would have either gotten a different award-presenter person or else gone halfsies on the room rent with the Society of Crack Whores, Mafia Bagmen & Other Shameless Panderers Inc.

But in addition to Judy's talk there was a talk by Judy's lawyer, which fact in itself is more than a little ironic. But it was his words which caught my attention:

Abrams, in classic lawyer mode, made the best case for his client's conduct, with no attempt to reflect on the vast difference between exposing and promoting government secrets, lies and slanders.  He argued that privilege could not be only for good information, and blasted unnamed blogs as "vile beyond words" in their criticism of his client.

By DAMN but I hope he was talking about us, and if he wasn't, could somebody please forward him our URL so he can add us to his list next time?

Details can be found in a diary over at dKos if yer interested, written by a guy who went to this SPJ meeting. I used to belong to that group as a matter of fact, right around the time it decided to change its name from Sigma Delta Chi because "SDX" sounded like some damn bunch o' hippies and radicals.
