Sarah Palin – the very scary face of the Republican future

While a number of the more cowardly VRWC mouthpieces in the MSM have abandoned the usual the Republican lockstep approach to candidate support solidarity while they try to climb on the Obama gravy train, others in the Party see this schism as a chance for purification and an opportunity to seize the apron strings of power.

IF ...

by Rudyard Kipling:
[IF]

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

R.I.P. Studs Terkel

An American legend has passed on:

Terkel's politics were liberal, vintage FDR. He would never forget the many New Deal programs from the Great Depression and worried that the country suffered from "a national Alzheimer's disease" that made government the perceived enemy.

He was looking forward to an Obama landslide, but he knew that progressives would need to hold his feet to the fire.

So you know what?

On the way out the door, stealing the silver and trashing the house

While Poppy was in the White House, petty thieves developed a strategy of delighting in petty vandalism -- destroying stuff they didn't steal, vandalizing the kitchen with wasted groceries, etc.
Now that Junior's skulking out toward (well-deserved IMNVHO) D-list celebrity / trivia question post-Residency, his administration's doing the same to the regulations that protect the environment and consumers, says today's WaPo.

You say "bitter" like that's a bad thing

My vote in Zone 5b

Top of the ticket: Write-in for Hillary Clinton.

Senate: Write-in for Independent, pro-single payer, pro-impeachment Democrat who was removed from the ballot by Party regulars with a bogus court challenge to his nominating petition.

Democrats for the rest of the down-ticket races.

Wednesday Morning

I remember the morning after the 1980 election. Of course we all knew Democrats could lose a Presidential, and most knew we were going to lose that Presidential, but the idea that we could lose the Senate had not presented itself. Except for a brief period during the Eisenhower administration, Democrats had controlled both houses since 1932.

Democrats dominated all the "unofficial" government, PBS, Brookings, almost all of the DC power structure was Democratic. It took the Republicans decades to undo all of that, but they succeeded, which is how they could do so much damage.
