Anbody out there converted their boiler to coal?

Up here in Zone 5b, we get anthracite from PA, so insofar as coal can be clean, this is clean. And it's less than half as expensive as oil, and we don't need the empire to mine it.

So, anybody converted? How'd it go?

I thought all coal in the east had a high sulfur content. IN any case it is carbon, so it contributes to global warming, but not more so than oil.

There is a way to put the smoke through a water pipe with algae which takes the carbon and turns it into oxygen. A sort of bong approach to carbon sequestration.

But check out this DIY Forum - HVAC.

Good luck with this. There are few things more misery inducing than being cold.

Brrr-r-r-r-r-r, I'm shivering just thinking about it. Join me for a hot cup of freshly brewed tea?

While oil is still a horrible thing to burn it does, indeed, burn cleaner than coal. Coal is better for energy independence, and oil is better for the environment, but not nearly by enough. Natural gas burns cleaner and produces more power per pollutant than either of the two (30% less pollutants than oil, and 45% less than coal).

It ran on coal before being converted (most likely) to manufactured gas (gasified coal/coal gasification), then to natural gas. I have a coal chute and everything.

I would get a loan and install geothermal before converting back to coal.
