Air America Radio: Big Fucking Whores

I got some e-mail from Thom Hartmann about Emily's List.

Oh, sorry, gotta get me some new bifocals. He was talking about Angie's List, in an e-mail titled "Air America Host Thom Hartman’s New Kitchen Counters":

Learn From Thom’s Mistake

We needed to replace a ten-year-old kitchen counter and sink. So we called a local contractor that we found on a free web-based bulletin board. The guy did lousy work, and stopped showing up after we’d paid him – before he finished the job.

Then we went to Angie’s List, read reviews from other consumers in our area and found a great contractor. He came over and fixed the damage the first guy caused and then installed beautiful new kitchen counters. And because he knew we could post our feedback on Angie’s List, he was very, very eager to make sure we were 100 % pleased with his work.

Angie’s List has thousands of reviews, so you’re virtually guaranteed to get the best service from the best local professionals. Heck, you can even check out your doctor on Angie’s List! Learn from our mistake, and always start with Angie’s List. Join today with promo code HARTMANN by 9/25/08 and they’ll waive the sign-up fee.

--Thom Hartmann, Host, The Thom Hartmann Show

I'm not complaining about AAR / America Left running on-air and on-web ads, charging for premium online service (something I was once moved to pay for), or getting paid a portion of my XM Radio fees. Apparently, the network's incessant misogyny and truthiness just isn't bringing in enough dough through those means.

The revolution will be e-mailed! And it will be spam!

That's the snarky implication of what you wrote. Or do you want us to really think that you made a mistake but were too busy to correct before you posted it? It might as well have been Emily's List is what you are saying. Which makes them whores, right?

I'm not sure what to make of the fact that Thom Hartmann lent his name to this commercial, and I suppose technically it's spam, but it's more likely to have been one of the many lists that gets handed around. BTW, what is Angie's List, that might have been nice to know? Like Craig's List?

As for Air America's sexism, they did fire Rhandi Rhodes. Are you calling Thom Hartmann "a sexist pig." A worthless piece of shit? What? Should we not read any of his books from now on?

I notice that Avedon often links to him and appears to be a fairly regular listener to his AA program, via her computer, I assume. Should we start to search her archives for evidence of sexism?

Just asking.

1. Emily's list: Political organization, and a rather principled one

2. Angie's list: Pay-to-join service organization, shilled for by Hartmann.

#1: The setup: expectation.

#2: The joke: Expectations violated.

See? The "implication" that you impute is 100% not there.

Gotta go.

Not even close. That's a tangled web you're weaving.

Hartmann isn't the worst offender on AAR; he kept a cleaner nose than most of them, but still got mighty truthy during the primaries.

Rhodes was suspended and then quickly resurfaced alongside AAR's other programming on XM Satellite Radio (on the America Left station), which is its main outlet, by way of another radio group.

An email from Thom Hartmann's about Emily's List would have been expected, whereas an email about Angie's List is not. Since Hartmann is a political commentator, he should stick with ads in that mileau. Unless it's a radio ads, because I understand that's part of being a radio personality, is to do radio ads, regardless of content, but an email ad? Please.
