Adopt a parasite

I was going to write a great post about this idea, but readers will have to make do with slap dash. In order to pass single payer we need to completely discredit the health insurance companies. In order to achieve this we will need their help. Fortunately they are willing to cooperate.

Thus today's disgrace: Blue Shield sued for allegedly canceling policies

The Los Angeles city attorney is suing Blue Shield of California for allegedly bilking policyholders when they tried to make claims.

A reader might adopt this case and continue to monitor it. Or you could follow the Cuomo investigation.

What I have in mind is that readers pick out a specific health insurance parasite (as an extra precaution, not your insurer) and monitor news reports. We are looking for regulatory actions, outrageous denial of care stories, litigation, and outrageous compensation packages for management. It is really easy, just do a search on your chosen parasite on Google News, on the left hand side you will see an envelope icon with Google News alerts, then follow the steps to set up an alert, be sure to choose Comprehensive as opposed to merely news, that way you will pick up blogs and other useful postings.

You should also use Topix, this will pick up items missed by Google.

It would be great if we could recruit a group of readers to monitor these parasites, at least the larger ones such as Wellpoint, Aetna, Cigna, Humanna, etc.

Fab idea!

It's on my to-do list.

Policy not party!

I agree, DC Blogger, Brilliant Idea

This is exactly what blogs can be superlative at. To keep that follow-up going. And then to pool the knowledge gained and refine it into usable material, by which I mean in the various ways one can use such grounded and grounding facts as part of organizing a political movement.

Special word about Barney Frank. He let us down big time in the Wall Street Sell out, HOWEVER, as chair of the Finance Committee, he offers some very serious muscle to HR 676. More over, as someone who supported Hillary in the Mass. primary, he has shown willingness to oppose Obama, so he won't roll for Obama's health care plan.

As to Rush Holt, he is the great hero of verifield voting, so you might want to keep that in mind.

It is your vote, so judge for yourself.

very good point

one of the biggest problems with otherwise desireable democrats voting for the bailout is, as lambert points out, the NOW NOW NOW. those who have been working on hr 676 have been working on it for years, with cool and clear heads. the bailout otoh -- a huge, costly, complicated situation that very few people have any expertise in -- was rushed through in just a few days with much shouting of we're all gonna die!
