These are the town halls Pete Peterson plans to stack with supporters who want to privatize Social Security. It would be really, really good if you could attend – you can apply here.

The one nearest me is in the middle of one of the wealthiest suburbs in the area.

539 Kingsberry Circle
Pittsburgh, PA 15234

June 26th, 11:30 - 6:00

Why, that's a mere hour and 40 minutes by weekday public transportation (but the meeting is on a weekend) from my overly-brown neighborhood!

30 minutes by car. Anybody want a ride?

One might think it would attract Wall Street types -- but that might also let various cats out of several different bags.l

Plus, all those damn liberals and DFH's in the NYC area.... And pretty mouthy, always with the analysis and some facts to back them up. Gotta keep them out of the meetings...and the news.

for progressive, liberal, socially responsible actions. Oh, no, no, no, can't do anything which might limit HCR (High Corporate Revenues).

But those "savvy businessmen" have no such compunctions and will use every possible problem to further their own profit making, however short term.

We are so fucked.

That's the commission set up by the 2003 Medicare bill that conducted extensive polling and townhall meetings to map out healthcare reform. However, when the citizens' views differed from Versailles's official position, they were conveniently edited out of the report's recommendations and only listed in the fine print at the end.

For example, check out the "Agree, Disagree" poll results and ask yourself if the following report finding is missing a certain, oh what's the word, honesty...
Although the results differed across meeting sites, a majority of participants (ranging from 55 percent to 88 percent in the community meetings) believed that everyone should be required to enroll in either private or public "basic" health care coverage.

way down at the end you can see the actual Agree percentages from both the polling and town hall results.
Create a national health plan, financed by taxpayers, in which all Americans would get their health insurance -- 70% / 78% (POLL / TOWN HALL FORUMS)
Require that all Americans enroll in basic health care coverage, either private or public -- 47% / 74% (POLL / TOWN HALL FORUMS)

Apparently the Community Discussions are for cities that don't have a town hall meeting, the Cat Food Commission will send the propaganda-- err discussion points for these meetings, presumably held in people's homes. You can sign up to host one yourself if you want, maybe combine it with a sideline Amway or Mary Kay sales pitch. :o) Here are the cities that have formal town hall meetings.

Albuquerque, NM
Augusta, ME
Casper, WY
Chicago, IL
Columbia, SC
Dallas, TX
Des Moines, IA
Detroit, MI
Grand Forks, ND
Jackson, MS
Los Angeles, CA
Louisville, KY
Missoula, MT
Overland Park, KS
Philadelphia, PA
Portland, OR
Portsmouth, NH
Richmond, VA
Silicon Valley, CA

this seems like a situation where Atrios, OL, Booman et al, could make a huge difference if they tried. So far the only philly blogger who is posting about this is Susie.

Supposing the more econ-savvy correntians posted some talking points, stuffed with facty goodness, to be used by those of us who manage to get our butts to one of these meetings?

Though it's hard to know if one could be heard at all. What possible format could they be using, given that the time is 11:30 - 6:00?
