If you have "no place to go," come here!

About that lunch

lambert's picture

Basically, all the reporting is the same, so I'll use the shortest (Hi, Nedra):

At a lunch meeting yesterday with Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, former President Clinton said he would do "a substantial number of things" to campaign for Obama this fall.

Clinton said he would do "whatever I'm asked to do" for Obama.

"We're putting him to work," Obama said.

Asked what he thought about Obama's race against Republican John McCain, Clinton said, "I predict that Senator Obama will win and win handily."

The former president will raise money and campaign for him, according to the Clinton aide, who confirmed that Bill Clinton would go to Florida for Obama on Sept. 29.

And there you have it.

Snark from the LA Times on their really great conversation. Start at:

All Obama had to do to get Clinton's cooperation was...

Can you say Canossa? I thought you could.

and so far, IMO, that's a huge mistake by Obama. He needs to be out there with the Clintons, not merely sending them on his behalf. Not that he shouldn't do the latter, but he'd benefit a lot more from doing a few stops with the Big Dog, IMO.

Unless, of course, the recent collapse of Fannie and Freddie and all the other shit hitting the fan as convinced him that it would be better for Mrs. Big Dog to be President in 2013. Because right now, it's beginning to look like that's where this is all headed if Obama doesn't stop running the same lame campaign John Kerry ran.

at the Clinton-Obama summit, in fact, that the two men didn't feel the need to shake hands in public. No one saw that anyway.

That's a good sign for the rest of the campaign, don't you think?

Uh...yeah. Sure. I for one have always found symbolic public displays of friendship and alliance between politicians a little tacky. Later on when no one was around to see they probably gave each other high fives.

Let me pull out a page from the OFB fanbook, I mean playbook, and just say that I have my doubts of the sincerity of the whole kabuki. Bills and Hills will do everything within their power to bend over backwards for Obama, which is something I never really doubted. They know that the OFB is watching them, and they'll put on the best damn show evah. They are laying it on awfully thick, as if almost winking, if you ask me. I mean, there is nothing longer that suggests that or assures that "Senator Obama will win handily.”

That the Clintons are willing to do whatever Obama -- and only Obama, asks them to do. They are not putting themselves at the disposal of team Obama...but if Obama himself asks either of them to be somewhere, they'll show up.

or at least that's what an email from Obama for America claimed this morning. It thanked me for joining the movement and pointed out all the resources on the website. Just one problem, I've never registered with the Obama website. I wonder who gave up the email address. Lots of suspects on that list.

It is a little unnerving that they chose to send the email as if I had registered instead of asking me to join. Fortunately, it had an unsubscribe button. I haven't decided for sure that I'll vote for him, but I am sure I don't want to be spammed by him.

He always seems to depend on a slew of Democrats vouching for him, as if the whole damn Party has to prop him up (And people think he's an empty suit? Never!). Worried about health care? Ted Kennedy (I vividly remember Obama himself saying, during a debate, that Hillary Clinton couldn't attack his plan because Ted, a longtime champion of UHC, approved of it). What about so-called "women's" issues? Oprah, Caroline Kennedy, and now Hillary Clinton. Economy? Hillary and Bill Clinton.

God, this man seems like an adult version of an outrageously spoiled brat, someone who's never had to grow up because everything was always handed to him. Combine that with his sense of entitlement and it's one hell of a problem.
