PART III-OTHER PROVISIONS SEC. 131. NO CHANGES TO EXISTING COVERAGE.

(a)
OPTION TO RETAIN CURRENT INSURANCE COV-ERAGE.-With respect to a group health plan or health insurance coverage in which an individual was enrolled prior to the effective date of this title, this subtitle (and the amendments made by this subtitle) shall not apply to such plan or coverage.

(b)
ALLOWANCE FOR FAMILY MEMBERS TO JOIN CURRENT COVERAGE.-With respect to a group health plan or health insurance coverage in which an individual was enrolled prior to the effective date of this title and which is renewed after such date, family members of such individual shall be permitted to enroll in such plan or cov-erage.

(c)
NO ADDITIONAL BENEFIT.-Paragraph (1) shall only apply to individuals described in such paragraph and the family members of such individuals (as provided for in subsection (b)).

If you have cruddy insurance, you have to keep it

The "Option" to retain current coverage says that this section of the law does not apply to plans already in effect. So if you're covered by your employer's half-assed plan that is great for execs but gives you virtually nothing, then the law doesn't make the employer improve its plan. If there's something later in the bill that contradicts this, I'll try to remember to come back and update, but it really looks like the bill tries to lock the current cruel system in place.
